WHY PHILOSOPHY?
Philosophy is often seen as abstract—something reserved for academics or ancient thinkers. However, philosophy is so much more than that. It's about examining the world around us, questioning what we know, and understanding our place in it. Philosophy encourages critical thinking, introspection, and curiosity, all of which are essential for personal and collective growth.
Yet, traditional Western philosophy has historically excluded many voices, particularly those from marginalized communities. That's why Her Philosophia embraces a more inclusive approach to philosophical inquiry. We incorporate diverse perspectives, challenge dominant narratives, and explore topics often left out of mainstream philosophical discourse, such as power, privilege, and systemic oppression.
Here, we view philosophy as not just an intellectual exercise, but as a tool for liberation. It’s a way to navigate the complexities of life, examine societal structures, and envision new paths forward for equity, justice, and healing.
WHAT IS PHILOSOPHY?
“Philosophy is about trying to see differently, feel more deeply, act more courageously.
”
At its core, philosophy is the study of fundamental questions about existence, knowledge, values, reason, mind, and language. It invites us to think deeply and critically about the nature of reality and our place within it. Philosophy pushes us to ask the difficult questions—questions that, once answered, can change how we see ourselves and the world.
In everyday life, philosophy might look like questioning the systems we live within, examining how our identities intersect with the world, or reflecting on how to lead a meaningful life. It gives us the tools to challenge our assumptions, deconstruct societal norms, and envision possibilities for personal and collective liberation.
“Not to know is bad; not to wish to know is worse.
”
PHILOSOPHY: WHAT IT IS & WHY IT MATTERS
Philosophy may seem abstract, but in reality, it is present in everything we do. It’s about being curious, reflective, and intentional in how we live. By engaging with philosophy, we can learn to think more critically about the world and explore the deeper meaning behind our actions, relationships, and society as a whole.
Her Philosophia centers on the idea that philosophy matters because it teaches us how to question, challenge, and reshape the world around us. Whether we are examining power structures, reflecting on our personal journeys, or envisioning new futures, philosophy offers a way to explore life with intention and depth.
Here, philosophy is for everyone—it’s a living practice, a way of being in the world, and a path to understanding not only ourselves but also the larger systems that shape our lives. My hope is that through Her Philosophia, you will find the tools and inspiration to critically engage with your world and discover the power of philosophy in everyday life.
KNOWLEDGE IS MEANT TO BE SHARED
Sharing knowledge through storytelling has the transformative power to uplift and inspire. Embracing a love for wisdom fuels our collective growth and understanding. By engaging in dialogue and contemplation, we can challenge our own beliefs and worldviews, and create a stronger foundation of learning for ourselves and others. We all have something to learn and something to share. As we step into an increasingly connected world through digital means, it is essential that we come together as a community to share our stories and create meaningful connections. That is why I am so passionate about the power of storytelling — it has the potential to create massive change in both our personal lives and the wider society.
